Design Systems Operations Designer
Role Summary
The Design System Operations Designer ensures design systems are accurate, consistent, and ready for development across client projects. This role acts as the bridge between design, product, and engineering by translating evolving client needs into well-documented, governed systems that scale across brands and releases.

55% Design System Governance & Maintenance
- Own and maintain living design system documentation for client and internal projects.
- Track all updates, proposed changes, approvals, and component status across multiple brands and environments.
- Manage the lifecycle of components from creation and QA through to client approval and developer implementation.
- Ensure that shared Core Kits and brand-specific UI extensions stay aligned to accessibility and scalability standards.
30% Documentation & Communication
- Document component usage guidelines, interaction behaviors, and accessibility notes in Figma Dev Mode and supporting tools.
- Capture edge cases and brand-specific overrides to support developers and client-side design teams.
- Manage design system release notes and communicate version changes to client stakeholders and engineering partners.
- Support designers in documenting new components and maintaining visual parity between design and development.
10% Design QA & Accessibility
- Lead Design QA reviews to ensure all design deliverables align with the approved design system and WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
- Verify that tokens, components, and variants are applied consistently across client projects.
- Collaborate with front-end developers during QA to ensure the coded experience matches design specifications.
5% Cross-Functional & Client Collaboration
- Act as the point of contact for system governance questions between Aries design teams, engineering, and client partners.
- Partner with UI Leads, UX/UI Designers, and Front-End Developers to ensure alignment on component naming, configuration, and deployment.
- Support client teams in understanding system conventions, documentation methods, and long-term maintenance practices.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in UI Design, DesignOps, or Design System management within an agency and multi-brand context.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Expert proficiency in Figma (component libraries, tokens, variants, documentation, Dev Mode).
- Understanding of front-end component frameworks (React, Storybook, etc.) and developer handoff workflows.
- Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and responsive design QA.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills—able to manage multiple client systems simultaneously.
- Bonus: Experience in composable commerce, e-commerce platforms, or multi- brand design ecosystems.
- It’s a plus if you have:
- Experience designing within agile or lean UX environments
- Experience designing B2C, B2B, and D2C e-commerce
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in a composable commerce or
SaaS environment - Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with ability to adapt to changing
priorities and technologies
