Network Security Engineer
Location: Remote
Working hours: Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM Eastern US time zone, with periodically scheduled on-call duties and after-hours change windows. Working hours may be adjusted with management approval to accommodate on-call duties and maintenance windows. Earlier and later shifts may be available – please inquire if interested.
Our client is a Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) that designs, deploys, and manages cybersecurity solutions for business clients. We perform a wide variety of network security services, such as firewall management and administration, to protect client environments from constantly evolving cyber threats. We are seeking qualified candidates to fill the role of Network Security Engineer.
Job duties include:
- Ensure the security and integrity of data and assets through effective firewall management and administration.
- Perform software updates to firewalls.
- Complete firewall change requests.
- Monitor firewall performance and health.
- Troubleshoot potential problems.
- Respond to questions and issues reported by business clients.
- Maintain firewalls according to client requirements.
- Apply security mitigations as appropriate.
- Escalate complex investigations and incidents to senior personnel.
- Provide relevant professional security guidance to clients.
- Prepare related analyses and reports.
- Maintain strong expertise in evolving technologies and cybersecurity threats.
- Other cybersecurity-related activities as appropriate.
Minimum qualifications:
- 3+ Years of similar network security engineering experience is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field of study.
- One or more relevant certifications (such as CISSP, CEH, CCNA, CND, or similar security certifications).
- Hands-on experience performing firewall administration in medium or large environments for 2 or more of the following: Juniper, Cisco, Check Point, or Palo Alto firewalls.
- Speaking and writing proficiency in English is required.
- Candidates must pass a background check.
- Candidates must pass an online technical assessment of cybersecurity skills.
Additional candidate attributes:
Candidates must have a strong technical background in network administration, cybersecurity technologies, and firewall administration. They should have a deep understanding of firewall platforms and how firewalls integrate with other network technologies. Candidates must be able to analyze complex network problems and develop effective solutions. They should be able to troubleshoot issues related to firewall configuration and quickly identify the root cause of a problem. They must be detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Candidates must communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and management. They must be able to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms and provide informative updates on firewall management and security to stakeholders. Strong working knowledge of Windows and Linux-based operating systems is helpful. Candidates should have a strong comprehension of methods and techniques used by cyber-criminals, including social engineering practices, phishing techniques, malware threats, zero-day attacks, and vulnerability exploits.
