Platform Engineer

Our systems are largely VMWare and Windows, but we do have some Unix/Linux and Azure VMs.
The Primary Responsibilities are paramount, but a strong resource that can assist with Cohesity and automation, contributing to the maturity of our processes and environment, would be ideal.

Primary Responsibilities
Upgrade, migrate, or replace Windows Server 2008, 2012, and 2016 environments to supported platforms, addressing security vulnerabilities and lifecycle support requirements.
Perform day-to-day Windows Server administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Monitor and manage server disk capacity, storage utilization, and remediation of space-related issues.

Additional Responsibilities
Administer and maintain the Cohesity backup and recovery platform.
Support integration and enhancement of application performance monitoring capabilities within New Relic.

Automation and Scripting Opportunities
Automate inbound file transfer processes, including SFTP integrations with Marketing systems.
Develop and maintain automation for multi-server PIM application startup and shutdown procedures, ensuring services are orchestrated in the correct sequence to maintain application stability.
Automate and streamline SOX evidence collection and reporting activities.
Identify and implement additional scripting and automation opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience administering and supporting Windows Server environments in enterprise-scale organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server 2008/2012/2016/2019/2022, including upgrades, migrations, patching, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience managing virtualized infrastructure, preferably VMware vSphere environments.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure infrastructure services, including Azure Virtual Machines, networking, and monitoring.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation for system administration, reporting, and operational efficiency.
  • Experience with enterprise backup and recovery platforms, preferably Cohesity.
  • Familiarity with application and infrastructure monitoring tools, including New Relic or comparable observability platforms.
  • Experience with file transfer technologies, including SFTP, and automation of data movement processes.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, certificate management, and Windows security best practices.
  • Understanding of IT controls, audit requirements, and SOX compliance processes, including evidence collection and documentation.
  • Experience supporting multi-tier application environments and coordinating service maintenance activities across interconnected systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with infrastructure, application, security, and business teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to document procedures and communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator, Windows Server Hybrid Administrator, or equivalent).
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, or orchestration tools.
  • Exposure to Linux/Unix administration in mixed-platform environments.
  • Experience supporting retail, e-commerce, or highly regulated business environments.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and service management best practices.
