Staff Accountant
Location: Remote from Argentina
The Staff Accountant will primarily be responsible for overseeing all month-end accounting tasks. This role ensures the timely and accurate preparation of monthly operational financials, reconciliation of accounts, and completion of other month-end closing activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, be able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and work effectively with other departments to meet deadlines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Month-End Close:
- Prepare and post all necessary journal entries for month-end closing, including accruals, deferrals, and adjustments.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts (e.g., bank accounts, credit cards, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and fixed assets).
- Ensure the accuracy of financial data for timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Revenue Recognition:
- Review and ensure the proper recognition of membership and program revenue, including monthly dues and personal training services.
- Adjust for any deferred revenue related to memberships or pre-paid services.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and distribute operational month-end profit and loss statements.
- Provide variance analysis and explanations for significant differences between actual, budget and prior year results.
- Account Review and Reconciliation:
- Ensure all accounts are reconciled accurately and in a timely manner.
- Investigate and resolve any discrepancies or issues identified during the reconciliation process.
- Compliance & Internal Controls:
- Ensure all month-end close procedures adhere to company policies and accounting standards.
- Assist in maintaining proper internal controls over financial reporting.
- Collaboration with Departments:
- Work closely with the operations and membership teams to ensure accuracy of revenue and expense transactions.
- Preparation for Audits:
- Provide supporting documentation and schedules for external audits or internal reviews as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Experience: At least 2 years of accounting experience, with a focus on month-end close processes.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and month-end closing procedures.
- Proficiency in accounting software (JD Edwards or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare month-end financial reports.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
- Experience with month-end close in a membership-based or service-oriented industry, such as fitness or health clubs, is a plus.
- Knowledge of revenue recognition for recurring billing is an advantage.
