System Administrator – MS Windows

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Systems Administrator to join our team. The primary focus of this role is the operation, maintenance, security, and support of core internal infrastructure. This includes Microsoft Windows servers, network switches, storage systems, VMware ESXi environments, backup solutions, and other critical systems.
This position requires a strong understanding of systems administration best practices, a proactive approach to system security and hardening, and the ability to maintain high operational standards in a client-focused environment.
Working hours:
The work schedule for this role aligns with the Eastern US time zone, Monday – Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM (EST/EDT). Working outside of normal business hours is periodically necessary to perform various maintenance tasks and change activities (i.e., software updates, security patching, deployments,
configuration changes, other system changes). On-call duties outside of regular working hours is sometimes necessary to address high severity issues that affect business operations. Job duties include:
- Ensure the security, integrity, and availability of critical infrastructure through effective systems administration and maintenance.
- Administer, monitor, and maintain Microsoft Windows servers, including
Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and other services. - Manage and maintain VMware ESXi environments, including virtual
machine provisioning, resource management, and patching. - Maintain Veeam backup platforms, ensuring regular, reliable backups and
timely recovery testing. - Support, configure, and maintain storage systems.
- Perform software patching, system updates, firmware upgrades, and system hardening in alignment with security best practices and vulnerability management requirements.
- Participate in vulnerability remediation activities, including identifying, prioritizing, and addressing vulnerabilities in supported systems.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, including configurations, procedures, and change records.
- Perform system health monitoring and proactive maintenance to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system, network, and infrastructure issues independently or in collaboration with other technical staff.
- Assist in implementing security controls and maintaining compliance with internal policies and industry best practices.
- Escalate complex incidents and issues to senior personnel or subject matter experts when appropriate.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies, industry trends, and cybersecurity threats.
Minimum qualifications:
- 2+ years of systems administration experience for a corporate or enterprise
environment is required. - Strong hands-on experience administering Microsoft Windows Server
environments is required. - Moderate to strong knowledge and experience with Linux-based systems is
required (e.g., CentOS, Ubuntu, RHEL). - Experience managing VMware ESXi infrastructure is required.
- Experience with Veeam or similar backup solutions is required.
- Strong understanding of network administration concepts and fundamentals, including TCP/IP, routing, DNS, and related protocols.
- Working knowledge of network switch administration needed to perform
routine maintenance and firmware updates. - Understanding of systems hardening practices, patch management, and vulnerability remediation is required.
Other helpful qualifications:
- Industry certifications such as MCSA, MCSE, VMware VCP, CompTIA
Server+, CompTIA Security+, or similar are helpful but not required. - Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, cybersecurity, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
- Experience working in environments governed by cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST CSF, SOC 2, or ISO 27001 is helpful.
- Strong familiarity with storage systems (SAN/NAS) and management practices is helpful.
- Scripting experience for system automation (e.g., PowerShell) is helpful.
- Candidates must demonstrate attention to detail, strong analytical skills, strong communication skills, and effective troubleshooting abilities.
- Candidates must be self-starters capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
